A big “Yo!” to all from Brooklyn, N.Y.!
I was Brooklyn born and raised – and still live in one of the most interesting and vibrant places in New York City. In my real life, I am the all around “computer guy” for a small higher education institution and a very unlikely Metalhead – with an Iron Maiden poster on my office wall (Eddie makes the students think twice about bothering me!).
I was hooked into metal back in high school when a friend brought in Blizzard of Ozz. It wasn’t Ozzy that caught my ear, but rather Randy Rhoads. His riffs just got into my head and wouldn’t go away. I was totally inundated by the “New Wave of British Heavy Metal.”
The ’80s are my decade of choice – Scorpions, Judas Priest, Maiden, Ratt, Saxon, etc., but I continued to follow the European metal scene into the ’90s with Accept, Bonfire, Pretty Maids, Malmsteen, and Anthrax, Metallica (non-commercial days) and Megadeth on this side of the Atlantic. For me, it was always about the guitars – Satriani, Malmsteen, Vai, Schenker, Masi and Chastain. The best concert I ever attended was Van Halen’s Monsters of Rock at the Meadowlands (Heaven’s Gate, Dokken, Metallica, Scorpions and Van Halen). Even though my tastes have softened a bit with advancing age, I ALWAYS will be a rocker at heart. My current bands of choice are Scorpions, 3, Bullet For My Valentine, Nightwish and JSS.
I still live in Brooklyn with my wife, Rosa, and kids, Maria & Tom, and my wife and I just celebrated our 20th Anniversary.
