The metal youth movement opens 2010 with Age of Evil’s six-song EP Get Dead, which features two studio tracks, “Cruel Intentions” and “Get Dead,” two covers; Judas Priest’s “The Hellion/Electric Eye” and Skid Row’s “Slave to the Grind,” and two live cut’s, “Eye For An Eye” and “Glimpse of Light.”

The band hails from Scottsdale, Ariz., and aims to put the metal back in metal. The band doesn’t shy away from their influences, mixing elements from heavy and thrash metal into their furious, original compositions. Age of Evil recalls the ‘80s emergence of thrash metal. Spirited and infectious, the brief foray into the band’s music shows that guitar-driven “cock rock” is not dead. This new generation of metal heads displays their musical skills with unrelenting passion and fury.

Truly a “band of brothers,” Age of Evil is a merger between the Ziff’s and the Goldberg’s. Ranging in age from 18 to 20, this is the foundational epitome of rock ‘n’ roll. With the desired components of youth, anger and rage blended in with musical skill, this tandem of brothers certainly have the heart needed to be a unified band. Taking their life-long friendship and turning it into something more, Age of Evil has arrived.

Brief as this release maybe, listeners get the chance to hear the possibilities for this young band. The studio songs give insight into the band’s creative writing skills. Mastery of the guitar is evident as shredding guitar solos are a part of the band’s makeup. Tipping their hat to Priest and Skid Row is cool as the band honors their heroes with their take on these classic metal anthems. We also are treated to the energy of the band in a live setting with the inclusion of the live cuts.

Definitely get out there and check these guys out.
