A photographer, musician and music fan, Christophe Pauly hails from Lustin (near Namur) in Belgium. Having grown up listening to a variety of music starting with the Grunge genre, Pauly began to learn the guitar and drums (a gift from his father when he was six) and started listening to Heavy Metal and progressive rock and metal. Those influences: Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura, Alice Cooper, Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen, Uli Jon Roth, Dream Theater, Spock’s Beard, Neal Morse, Franck Zappa, led to Pauly embracing the concert scene in his country.
His passion for music led him to naturally take up concert photography. Inspired by photographers like Neil Zlozower, Charles Peterson and Chad Lee, he started to photograph some gigs in Jazz clubs in Brussels. These experiences helped him to learn to master different techniques and to adapt to some extreme lightning conditions. Photography helped Pauly to express his feelings during those concerts through his photographs. As he found enjoyment in showing the expressions of musicians who live for their music through images he captured digitally or on film.
Seeking to expand his portfolio Pauly has photographed artists like Spock’s Beard, Neal Morse and Ray Wilson. He photographed the Octopus Festival which featured bands like AqME, Mass Hysteria and Therapy?. During this time he took a break and spent more time to hone his technique. Later he starting working for a website that featured information on cultural events. This helped Pauly build a working relationship with several venues in Belgium and Luxemburg. Since that time Pauly has photographed larger concerts that have featured bands like Dream Theater and Black Label Society as well as prominent music festivals including the Hellfest Festival.
In effort to broaden his exposure to a larger audience he has joined the Hardrock Haven team exposing even more music fans to his talent.
