The Ride For Dime, an annual event started a few years ago in Dallas Texas to commemorate the life of iconic metal shredder “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott has added another “franchise” location. The Nashville chapter of the Ride For Dime kicks off its inaugural ride on September 22nd. The event will feature a motorcycle ride, live bands including Dime’s friend and fellow “rebel” David Allen Coe. There will also be memorabilia and guitar auctions, plus more than a few surprises. The purpose of ride and concert is to remember the life and music of Darrell Abbott with all funds raised going to support the various Ride For Dime Charities.

Chad Lee, a noted rock n’ roll photographer and Vice President of Ride For Dime Nashville is playing a key roll in getting RFD Nashville off the ground. “It’s going to be a really solid event for anyone who likes music and was a fan of Dimebag” he remarked. “We’re asking bikers who want to participate to start assembling at Bost Harley Davidson, 4600 Delaware Avenue Nashville starting at 1 p.m.” Well have live music at the assembly point in addition and food and drinks will be available as well.”

At 3:33, rider will depart the Harley dealer to ride a section of the beautiful historic Natchez Trace Parkway, known as the “National Scenic Trail.”

One of the interesting facets of this ride is that there is no cost to participate in the ride. “Yes, that’s correct” said Lee. “Anyone who wants to ride along is absolutely welcome to fire it up and cruise with us.”

While there is no charge to participate in the motorcycle ride, there is a $20 advance charge ($25 day of show) to attend that evenings concert. Kicking off at 6 p.m at Limelight, 201 Woodland St, Nashville, performers include the aforementioned David Allen Coe, Chicago rockers, Soil, Jasmine Cain and Nashtown’s own Angel Mary and The Tennessee Werewolves. Closing out the evening will be Voodoo Profit, who will be throwing down what is described as an amazing Pantera tribute set. There will be beer, food and some amazing auctions of memorabilia including three Dean Guitars, (one being a USA Custom Shop model), autographed items from Slayer, Shinedown, and Slipknot and much more with all the proceeds going to charity.

  1. Dimebag was taken from us all too soon but his off-stage antics and face-melting guitar shredding will ring out through generations to come. The world lost a true prodigy of metal from this insane murder. I’m a huge fan myself and this year for the anniversary of his passing, drew a new portrait of Darrell on my artist’s blog and made a head-banging tribute video for this dearly departed God of Rock which you can watch at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/12/dimebag-darrell-tribute-video.html
