Suicide Bombers | Murder Couture

Norwegian bands and their Scandinavian neighbors have been on a roll over the past decade; knocking out a cornucopia of quality Hard Rock and Metal spanning numerous genres and (at times) illogical sub-genre concoctions that often go undetected in other parts of the world. SUiCiDE BOMBERS are one such band. Led by former Trashcan Darlings guitarist Chris Damien Doll, the band previously released 3 albums over a 5-year span (Criminal Record, The Sex Tapes, and Suicide Idols) that were all critically acclaimed. Each release was arguably better than the one before and featured a unique blend of Garage Band Hard Rock, Punk, and Glam/Sleaze Metal. Their albums were rather simple and straight-forward and laced with attitude, yet certainly “fun”.

So now in 2019 SUiCiDE BOBMERS continue their momentum via Murder Couture, which (in basic English) translates to Tailoring Murder … from a seamstress perspective, if you will. Similar musical traits from their first three releases can certainly be found in this new album, but this time around you’ll hear more angst in their lyrics and “What the f___” questions and conclusions. Despite not being able to make total sense of the world, SUiCiDE BOMBERS are careful not to go too far down the rabbit hole chasing despair and are successful in keeping their songs upbeat lyrically and sonically (with the possible exception of the track “We Don’t Negotiate With Terrorists”).

Songs such as the title track “Murder Couture”, “So Bad”, and “Sleepless Elite” may make you do a double-take by having you think you’re listening to previously unreleased tracks by Glam/Punk legends The New York Dolls (NYD). In fact, other than Doll’s voice, clear influences from The NYD are spread throughout this new release (and band) … which is something the music world needs and should embrace.

If you like Garage Band Hard Rock/Punk with some light-hearted audacious decadence, then the SUiCiDE BOMBERS are a band you should check out. Murder Couture isn’t going to change your life, but whenever you feel compelled to devote 50 minutes or so to listening it, you’ll at least feel better about your plight. Right now this band is tearing it up in Scandinavia … they deserve the same attention in North America. Make the effort to find out what you’ve been missing!
