Silent Tiger | Twist of Fate

For those of you that may not be familiar with this band, Silent Tiger is the brainchild of songwriter, guitarist Jean Funes with the album Twist Of Fate being their sophomore effort. That said, Jean Funes is no stranger to the melodic rock genre dating back to 2014 with his band Sound Of Eternity and 2018’s Hearts On Fire, both being released on the Australian based Melodic Rock Records. Rather than a once and done project, this time around, Funes has been successful in releasing a follow up effort to the Silent Tiger debut Ready For Attack  and if you enjoyed that then it will be no twist of fate that you will enjoy this sophomore release from Silent Tiger.

Once again vocalist David Cagle and drummer Joel Mejia are present and are accompanied by guest appearances from Royal Hunt’s bass player Andreas Passmark and Degreed’s keyboard Mikael Blanc. Though produce by Jean Funes, the album is mixed and mastered by Degreed’s drummer Mats Ericsson. While buried in the melodic rock genre there is a certain degree of modern rock resulting in Silent Tiger not devouring your ears but bringing a sonic delight to them.

Twist Of Fate get’s straight to the point with the pulsating track “Shadows Of Life” and over the next 10 tracks and 43 minutes you are treated to well produced and executed composed music from the Honduras born Jean Funes. It certainly does not hurt to have the more than able LastWorld vocalist David Cagle alongside for the ride who was featured on the Silent Tiger debut. But if you want to know if this album is really going to appeal to you search out the memorable “Last Of The True Believers” with Funes chords dancing with the less obvious bubbly keyboard work of Mikael Blanc. Similar results are found on the follow up track “Wings Of A Dream” with a delightful chorus. In addition, skip forward to the urgent “Another Destination” and these triple threat songs are probably the strongest of the ten.

The album closes out with the slightly slower tempo and mellower affair with some really solid vocal harmonies, Funes guitar interplay with Blanc’s atmospheric keyboard work ending another good album from Silent Tiger. The main ingredient missing from Twist Of Fate is a lack of variety in tempo and style. But if you enjoy the music of Degreed, to a certain degree there are some similarities and you would do well to prey and pounce on Silent Tiger’s latest solid sophomore effort.
