Support – The Bites, The Treatment

It is early, Rock City is still only half full but opening band The Bites burst onto stage sizzling with energy and youthful ebullience.  They deliver a high powered and fun set with catchy tunes to get the crowd moving and dancing along with them.  They seem to take the crowd by surprise, but by the end of their set, they definitely had more than a few converts given the amount of crowd participation and applause that they received.

The Treatment are the next appetizer, they already have a good many fans here. They have great energy and Andy Milburn has good banter and works the crowd well.

And to the main course.

The lights are down, the anticipation is high, Led Zep’s “Rock and Roll” heralds the arrival of the main act. Launching directly into “Light Em Up,” the Dead Daisies set up the performance for the night. ‘Nottingham let me see your hands,’ roars Corabi, as they continue with “Rise Up.”  Corabi’s powerful vocals certainly do rise up and soar throughout Rock City.

“Dead and Gone” has accompanying “yeah-ee yeah-ee” from the crowd before big tune, “Make Some Noise” is played.  And, the crowd is encouraged to make some noise by clapping and singing along.

“I Wanna Be Your Bitch” – written about Corabi’s ex , has a strong groove to it, is a light heartened danceable track, and one which the band have fun with.

This is big show with the incredible lighting and impressive video back drop squeezed into the intimacy of a club setting.  Big tunes aplenty are played interspersed with chat from Corabi.  The crowd welcomes him back into the Dead Daisies fold, as if he had never been away.  He in turn, seem completely at home and has stepped back into the mantel as though he had just nipped out for cigarettes.  And when Corabi wants the crowd’s attention, he didn’t just ask for it, he demands it.  This is his crowd.  And Nottingham knows it and does not want to disappoint.

The rest of the band step back to allow Tommy Cefatis the spotlight.  He undertakes a drum solo before launching into “Bustle &  Flow.”  A few more anecdotes before Corabi asks whether the crowd like to ride, before playing latest single “I’m Gonna Ride.”

Corabi takes the time to introduce the rest of the band and they all get their own mini segment to showcase their talent

The rousing “Fortunate Son” – leads Corabi & Aldrich pumping the crowd to clap along, before he segues into “Mexico” by commenting upon the appalling  UK weather.

The unmistakable intro of “Midnight Moses” brings the powerful set to a close with the crowd stomping and singing along.

The Daisies return for an encore of “Long Way” to go and “Helter Skelter.” The audience require no encouragement to end this night on a high as Corabi wants every voice to be singing and every arm to be up in the air. The crowd give it their all and a rousing end of the night ensues.
