\"AdrenalineGone are the days when hard rock was exclusively a boys\u2019 thing, women\u2019s role within the genre limited only to rolling around on the hood of a Jaguar \u2013 at least, it seems so! Although the \u201880s saw the rise (and fall) of a few notable female-fronted rock bands \u2013 think of Femme Fatale or Saraya \u2013 now there\u2019s more and more groups that follow the formula, the Swedish act Adrenaline Rush being one of them. Recorded under the auspices of Erik M\u00e5rtensson (of Eclipse and W.E.T), their self-titled debut album is to be released this year in August via Frontiers Records.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the most recognizable member of the band is a frontwoman T\u00e5ve Wanning, formerly of pop duo Peaches. While many (mostly male) rock writers will find much pleasure in emblazoning her appearance, it has to be stated the singer has quite a strong voice at her disposal, with manner of singing that somewhat reminds one of Vixen\u2019s Janet Gardner. She sounds pretty feisty in the opening \u201cBlack N\u2019 Blue\u201d, a melodic hard rock piece driven by an aggressive, modern guitar riff. <\/p>\n

Next are the single \u201cChange\u201d and \u201cGeneration Left Behind\u201d, both straightforward contemporary rock illustrated with rebellious lyrics belted out by Miss Wanning. A sleaze-infused party anthem \u201cGirls Gone Wild\u201d follows, leaving no doubt that this particular song can \u2013 and should \u2013 become \u201cGirls Just Want To Have Fun\u201d of the 2010s. Well, at least in rock-oriented circles! It gets a bit slower \u2013 and a bit more serious, for a change \u2013 in \u201cWhen We\u2019re Gone,\u201d a somber mid-tempo featuring some outstanding guitar licks. <\/p>\n

The echoes of \u201880s rock resonate in keyboard laden \u201cWant It All,\u201d its well-crafted chorus \u2013 tailored for throat-ripping and fist-pumping purposes \u2013 being one of the album\u2019s highlights. Music-wise, the next track \u201cToo Young To Die\u201d may remind one of bands such as Blue Tears, Brighton Rock or Hot Boy as it has Adrenaline Rush gravitating towards \u201880s melodic hard rock\/AOR again. With \u201cOh Yeah,\u201d one gets a tad of blues and a solid dose of hard rock, the influence of Aerosmith being apparent if not obvious. <\/p>\n

Next is \u201cNo No No\u201d with its rebellious lyrics against the background of raw guitar riffs, culminating in a breakneck solo. Both the stellar lead guitar work and the structure of the chorus in \u201cPlayin\u2019 To Win\u201d bring to mind Gary Moore\u2019s mid\u201880s Irish music-infused endeavors \u2013 and certainly, it\u2019s another of the brightest spots of the entire record. The final \u201cHit You Like A Rock\u201d is again straightforward and noisy hard rock with some modern touches, perhaps generic but nevertheless enjoyable.<\/p>\n

The further Adrenaline Rush goes, the better it gets. The first few tracks may not entirely reveal what\u2019s extraordinary about the band, being \u201cjust\u201d lightweight hard rock with a bit of modern sleaze\/glam metal. However, the best is to come with tinkly AOR-ish keyboards illustrating \u201cToo Young To Die\u201d or the outstanding vocal harmonies in the Aerosmith-esque \u201cOh Yeah.\u201d In its entirety, the album is guaranteed to provide the titled \u201cadrenaline rush\u201d to every listener who\u2019s got \u201880s hard rock running through their veins. Give it a spin and you\u2019ll find yourself able to go off coffee for the next month \u2013 much recommended!<\/p>\n
