Having not heard of the band before, I was excited to see what they’ve had to offer. And there were no disappointments! Filling the venue with infectious Glam style Rock sounds, they were owning the crowd in headliners manner. What a brilliant start of the evening!

Powerwolf’s 2018-2019 tour has brought Kissin’ Dynamite to the UK for the first time and they have left a lasting impression.

Next up on stage were Swedish Melodic Metal six piece Amaranthe. Featuring the three singer concept, clean vocals of Nils Molin, screams/ growls of Henrik Wilhelmsson contrasting with Elize Ryd’s voice;- is interesting and works well. Amaranthe are masters in mixing pop-infused electronics with Heavy Metal riffs to create powerful and energetic sounds. They were brilliant in continuing the party that Kissin’ Dynamite had started, the only let down was the moment when the band’s bassist Johan Andreassen decided to do a bit off stand-up comedy that did not go very well and ended up being awkward rather than entertaining.

Then finally it was time for Powerwolf’s “Heavy Metal Mass”. Birmingham was last UK stop in Powerwolf’s “The Sacrament Of Sin” tour following the 2018 namesake release.

The haunting entrance of “Lupus Daemonis” intro was followed by the band’s frontman Attila Dorn leading into the epic piece “Fire And Forgive” while hiding behind the impressive sword like microphone stand. He was tirelessly entertaining the crowd, whether engaging fans in singing along or commanding them to shout their lungs out for another piece or singing “Happy Birthday” to a fan in the front row.

Powerwolf surely knows how to write great anthems and proves Metal doesn’t have to be always dark and moody business. Who cares about the silliness in pieces like “Resurrection by Erection” as long as it’s easy to sing along and its fun, it’s dramatic, it’s bombastic… it’s just brilliant!
What a great evening that was!
