Better songwriting has been key to their laudable growth. They write damn good songs.

What differentiates Midnite City from the glut of Hard Rock bands is they create quality music that isn’t derivative. If you try, you can’t name 40# off them. And most of them are utter schlock. It’s craptastic. But Midnite City wields authentically kick ass music that sounds like no other band.

“Ready to Go” is a fast arena track, that fires you up and makes you wanna guzzle Bacardi 151. The band works so well together it’s almost like they are friends who have a hell of a good time creating music. Bands that don’t get along can’t write this kind of composition.

If you want ’80’s Hard Rock, well hello “Someday.” Shawn Charvett’s keys strengthen every song, but it’s noticeable here in the way the keys bolster, augment the song.

“Hardest Heart to Break” is proof that singer Rob Wylde can bring the heat, but here, he softens the blow. One thing you’ll realize is that Wylde own his own style, his own voice. It’s not mimicry, and that’s another facet Midnite City employs. You just can’t sound like everyone else–they don’t.

Keys open the track “All Fall Down.” It’s the one song where it seems tropes infest the lyrics. “Everybody, raise your hands.” That aside, guitarist Miles Meakin is in the spotlight with his melodic style, a highlight of this song.

“Beginning of the End” encapsulates their sound. It’s heartfelt, you can feel the longing in Wylde’s voice. He just sounds bereft. Everything just works together. It’s clearly a hit song, and only Midnite City can create this music.

In at the Deep End is a much needed release. It’s sickening when bands color by numbers and are not invested in their group. If you want to know who’s in the deep end, it’s all those other bands trying to keep up with Midnite City.

Genre: Hard Rock

Band: Rob Wylde-lead vocals
Miles Meakin-lead guitar,
Shawn Charvette-keys,
Josh “Tabbie” Williams-bass
Ryan Briggs-drums

Tracklisting:
Outbreak
Ready to Go
Someday
Hardest Heart to Break
Good Time Music
All Fall Down
Girls Gone Wild
Beginning of the End
Raise the Dead
It’s Not You It’s Me
Like There’s No Tomorrow

Online: midnitecity.com

Hardrock Haven rating: [usr 8.9 size=20]

by Derric Miller — Managing Editor— Midnite City is reveling in their latest release In at the Deep End. Like every prior release, they just keep improving.
