Their music has been described as hooky, heartfelt and literate. The band&#8217;s influences span more than a few decades of loud guitar indie and college rock, including: Guided By Voices, Echo &amp; the Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, Superchunk, and Teenage Fanclub.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Big Takeover<\/em> magazine said of The Pretty Flowers debut album, <em>Why Trains Crash<\/em>, released on Portland\u2019s Dirt Cult Records, \u201cThese Los Angeles hard power-poppers&#8230;play &#8217;90s style indie-rock that harkens back to later Replacements, early Weezer, a little Sloan, and quite a bit of Wilco. They have the chops to write great songs.\u201d The blog &#8220;I Buy Way Too Many Records&#8221; lauded it as \u201ca shoe-in for (2018) album of the year,\u201c and punk zine Razorcake called it \u201clyrical, like a toned-down The Weakerthans&#8230; wistful, but not weak and catchy but not cute\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Since the release of <em>Why Trains Crash<\/em> the band has played a lot of shows around their hometown and toured the west coast a few times. Their songs have been featured on two seasons of Showtime\u2019s Shameless, season 2 of the CW\u2019s Nancy Drew, Peacock TV\u2019s The Resort, and most recently Syfy\u2019s Resident Alien. The band also released the covers album,<em> Golden Beat Sessions<\/em>, as well as numerous singles.<\/p>\n<p>2023 will find the band on a west coast tour of the US with The Roxies from Berlin, Germany and the release of their sophomore album, A Company Sleeve, on their new label, Double Helix Records.
