andrew-solomonIn reading Andrew Solomon’s list of accomplishments and collaborators, you get the impression this is going to be an album worth listening to. Having been a graduate student at Harvard Business School with an additional degree from ASCAP’s Advanced Songwriting Workshop, Andrew has also had his music placed on Fox, ABC, CNBC as well as PBS. In addition to all this, he’s been featured in Billboard, Forbes and the San Franciso Chronicle.

Andrew’s sound might best be described as a mix between Seal and Zach Nichols. It’s a light pop album with blues and funk overtones.

The opening track, “The Hurting Distance”, has a nice drive to it. The haunting piano track adds a melodic texture to the introduction. As the song builds, the track actually adds a feeling of urgency and emotion to the song.

“Too Much for You” has a funky groove to it. This track probably sounds more like Seal than any other on the album. It’s catchy and soulful, which will make it a good candidate for a fan favorite.

Another powerful song is “Trying Not to Know”. It has a memorable piano riff and a soaring melody through the chorus, making it yet another Something More track that could achieve a widely popular status.

Andrew sings of the loss of one of his close friends in “Don’t Rescue Me”. It’s an inspiring song about living your life and not being afraid of dying. The chorus, like in so many of Andrew’s songs, is infectious.

With his third release, Something More, Andrew Solomon has captured a tremendous amount of emotion and insight. No matter what genre you fancy, this album will likely speak to you.
