Inside Process Shade the Sun

inside-processOh boy, another metalcore band. Apparently that fad hasn’t quite passed (thanks a lot, Hot Topic). Anyway, Inside Process is an Italian metalcore band, and their debut offering is called Shade the Sun. If you think the European metalcore might be a refreshing change from the all too undistinguishable American metalcore sound, think again. Everything you love/loathe about the genre is present on Shade the Sun. Short songs? Check. Alternating clean and growled vocals? Check. Hardcore breakdowns? Check. Tortured, introspective, but still completely macho (God forbid someone think they were a frigging emo band) lyrics? Check. Anything remotely resembling melody thoroughly eliminated from the album? Check.

That’s not a slam against Inside Process per se. They’re technically proficient and seem to be perfectly good at what they do. It’s just that what they do has been done to death, and there doesn’t seem to be any real innovation or evolution forthcoming in that whole genre.

If metalcore is your thing, and you’re looking for something new (but not new) to listen to, then by all means give Inside Process a try. They’re every bit as impressive and interesting as their American counterparts. Take that for what it’s worth.
