Dynazty Bring the Thunder

dynazycoverThe world really doesn’t need another creatively spelled band name but here’s another one, so deal with it. Oh, to live in Sweden where the sun never goes down on hair metal. Dynazty hails from Stockholm and though their music sounds more from the early ‘90s end of metal (think Dangerous Toys meets Mr. Big), they’re still yet another band you can happily crab-dance to all the way down Sunset Strip.

Starting off with “Bring the Thunder,” a raucous little number that shows off the ego that such music needs to take off, the eponymous album is a good mix of Eric Martin vocals and bouncy, catchy riffs that occasionally meander towards Power Metal, you know, to keep it from getting too dated. “Catch the Night,” has that stamp-your-feet beat that always gets audience participation and the screeching guitar make it an equally brash second song to be smacked in the face (ears?) with. Naturally, every band, to be initiated into the cool boys club, has to play loose and fast with the double entendre lyrics and, “Lights Out in Candyland,” does just that. “Love at first bite,” indeed.

“Far Away,” is a simple, slow song and while giving Molin the chance to show off some of his vocal skills, it just seems like the generic ballad that one idiot always insists on including. The good news is, it’s not so sappy that it channels David Coverdale, but it’s getting there. It’s more Power Metal ballad-y though, which is more acceptable. They are touring with The Poodles after all.

Mixing it up a little bit with, “Monkey Wants, Monkey Gets,” the song starts with a banjo-like intro with a chanting chorus of the title, much like the “Heads I Win, Tails You Lose,” duet between Stephen Pearcy and Jon Bon Jovi. “Adrenaline,” lives up to its name with a fast-paced melody that kick starts your heart and will shake you all night long and those are enough references for one song so we move on to, “The Devil’s Shake.” Though it begins with a rather same-old, same-old tune, it’s got a chorus that will get stuck in your head topped off with killer riffs that always make songs sound better than they are.

“Sail Away,” is the last song and red alerts always sound when one sees “Sail,” in the title of the song. Luckily, this is another machine-gun fire fast song with awesomely excited wailing vocals that bring the album to a just finale. Definitely a fun record to have one while doing anything that requires a lot of energy …
