Vince Neil Tattoos & Tequila

Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil steps away from the spotlight to showcase his solo talents with his first solo album in 15 years. Tattoos & Tequila is slated to be released on June 22 on Nikki SIxx’s record label Eleven Seven Records. Vince’s solo band consists of Slaughter members Dana Strum on bass, Jeff Blando on guitar, and drummer Zoltan Chaney.

Tattoos & Tequila picks up where Saints Of Los Angeles left off. It has to be one of the best songs that Vince has ever recorded … but then you realize this is mostly covers with two new songs. It is very risque for an artist to release a covers album. The general public is so particular on how the renditions turn out. In this case, Vince has picked more of the obscure songs from his favorite artists that work in his favor.

First of all the title says it all Tattoos & Tequila pretty much sums up the Motley Crue persona. It is a brilliant name and after listening to the title track it leaves you wanting more original tunes. There is one more original song written by Nikki Sixx entitled, “Another Bad Day.” The entire album spans a generation of music from artists that range from AC/DC to The Sex Pistols. Vince and company are giving a hundred percent on this album. On the title track, the song is very well produced and Vince’s vocals rock hard.

Stand out tracks on this album include the Elvis Presley song “Viva Las Vegas.” This song reminds me of Vegas and the everyday circus that surrounds the city. Big city lights, living your dreams that is what this song is about. It breathes sex, and larger than life images. Vince resides in Vegas, and he makes this song his own. Another stand out track is the CCR song, “Who’ll Stop The Rain.” The acoustic guitar is really hard driving and Vince’s vocals are crystal clear.

“Another Piece of Meat” by The Scorpion is also a great hard rock song.Overall, if you are a huge Motley Crue fan this is a collector’s item. Vince does an outstanding job but leaves you wanting more original music. The standards are high for any member of Motley Crue and sometimes a cover album just won’t do. But this is a fun summertime album to walk down memory lane.
