Get Scared! EP

Two years ago, Utah rockers Get Scared! went from local band to internet stardom as their 6-track EP Cheap Tricks and Theatrics was released to tease fans with. Now,merely two years after, as fans anticipate a full-length due out later this Spring, another 3 tracks have appeared yet on another EP to enjoy while awaiting Best Kind of Mess.
The band that consists of vocalist Nicolas Mathews, guitarist Johnny B. and drummer Dan Edwards have completed a short compilation of dance-screamo, rock n’roll tracks by the name of: “Setting Yourself Up For Sarcasm”, “If only she knew voodoo like I do”, and “Deepest Cut”– which all three, leave a listener wanting more.
The band’s overall persona of dark and evil is introduced in the first track “Sarcasm.” This tight melodic machine of jazzy guitar riffs and keep it post-hardcore with a mix of vocals and growls that will make any 14-year-old fall over heels. The complexity of the song is highlighted with the mix of piano and strings, creating a melody backed up with aggression, however, it’s all too reminiscent of the current scene.
The second track “Voodoo,” lies on heavy guitars in a very energized atmosphere. There will be no head-banging in this song, just dancing. Both “Sarcasm,” and this second track go together great for such genre, although, vocalist Mathews keeps the melody authentic. Thirdly, and finally, there’s “Deepest Cut,” which is the heaviest of them all. Verses are very instrumental and the bass is highly emphasized. The song overall is a well-rounded sing-a-long that during the bridge, expect an intense mosh-pit when played live.
The full-length is only months away, but this little tease is a great preview. The songs are solid with elements of post-hardcore with the screamo-whatever-core that fans have maintained popular. As far as guitar work and hard hitting vocal tactics go, it’s there, but it’s definitely time for the whole thing.

Uhhh, you totally left one of the band members out. Brad? Plays guitar, also. How do you even manage to do that?
You didn’t mention Brad once in the article. He’s still in the band, isn’t he?
You guys didn’t mention brad. He’s also a guitar player, he was one of the first members to make get scared. Nicholas and brad started this band and then Johnny and Dan came later. I think you guys need to give credit to brad and include him in this article.
There, Brad is now part of the gang. On MySpace, he goes by “conductor” but on his Twitter page, he said he plays guitar. So … updated! And thanks for catching that … Cheers, Derric
