AOR fans rejoice as Bad Habit has arrived with their strongest effort to date!

Swedish Melodic Rockers Bad Habit have finally proven they can roam with the big dogs with their 10th release Atmosphere. From the opening track “In The Heat Of The Night” straight through to the final track “Without You” this album is a Melodic Rock fan’s wet dream.

High kudos to co-founder Hal Marabel for multi-tasking like most others only wished possible. From handling guitar duties Hal also wrote the songs, played keys AND produced the album!! (Hal, can you also fix gas heaters? The damn thing just won’t stay lit!)

Additional props to lead guitarist Sven Cirnski who simply rips throughout, and lest we forget the solid rhythm section of drummer Jaine Salazar and bassist Partik Sodergren who adeptly lay the pocket and bottom each song begs for.

Last but not least, bravo to vocalist Max Fehling for providing the emotion each song yearned for in a vocalist.

The only overriding disappointment, unfortunately, lays squarely on the lyrics.
To call them predictable (at sadly at times cringe-worthy in their simplistic presentation) would be an understatement and guys, not every song has to be about love lost or how one “would be lost without you,” which while redundant saturates this entire album. One would assume after 10 albums the theme would have worn thin; however that is not the case here.

Overall musically, Atmosphere stands tall and one could say heads and shoulders above most AOR. However, the lyrics drag the mood of what should have been a great album into the muck and mire of a band approaching its debut effort not that one of an established and accomplished seasoned act.

Atmosphere is still a solid album and hopefully the next effort contains topics more respectful and thoughtful of the music and musicianship.
