Seance Awakening of the Gods

Séance was formed in Linköping Sweden in 1990 and broke up in the late nineties. Awakening of the Gods has 11 tracks lasting a short 36 minutes and is the bands third full-length effort. This album out now on Pulverized Records is the bands first CD in more than 16 years.
It features awesome, yet basic death/thrash metal riffs and cool ferocious crisp guitar leads, and pretty cool rhythm section of dominant bass notes and a kick ass drummer. The length is a little circumspect though as they had 16 years to create and only composed 36 minutes of material? This critique though comes from a genuine yearning of more music from the Swedes and can be seen as positive.
Guitars blaze on nice lead pieces as seen on “Your Time Has Come, but show their talents for diversity with softer passages as well. One of those very pieces is”Revel in Death” a beautiful acoustic dual guitar piece.
“Flight of the Wicked” sees rocket fast bass guitar and regular acoustic notes in a barrage that is not only unique but is actually rather lovely. It is completely different within this death/thrash metal album.
The album’s vocals are average at best and are actually the weakest part of the band. They resemble a “light” version of a young Lemmy Kilmeister and don’t add or subtract much from the music.
The band does have alter-ego names and uses stupid fake anti-Christian imagery and themes, but the Séance boys manage to overshadow that nonsense with a vengeance by using serious quality metal on Awakening of the Gods.
So the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help us God is that this is a killer CD rife with all that metal should contain and is highly recommended for purchase (despite the 666 song title “idiotacy”).
