Formed in 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia the comedy/metal band known as Dick Delicious and The Tasty Testicles released three albums between 1995 and 2003. Their shining moment up to that point was winning the Howard Stern Award for Musical Excellence in 2003 and subsequently disbanding shortly afterward.
With song titles on their prior 3 full length releases (Dick Delicious (self-titled) We Sold Our Souls For Wet Sloppy Holes and Bigger Than Ron Jeremy) like “Big Stinky Pussies, Thick Cheesy Discharge & Hit Me With Your Wet Twat” one should not be surprised with what’s contained on their most recent release Vulgar Display Of Obscurity.
While containing 40 tracks and 78 minutes worth of some of the most amusing and offensive material ever recorded D.D. finds a way to attack every group from the mentally handicapped to themselves as well. To call them politically incorrect would be the grandest of under statements and in the tradition of the grand daddy’s of “Shock/Comedy Rock” The Mentors, DD&TTs kick it up a notch on Vulgar Display Of Obscurity.
With regards to style there’s flavors of all sorts going on here. Combinations of Heavy Metal with Punk, touches of Thrash, dashes of Classic all rounded out with a smattering of Alternative makes this an album for lovers of every genre.
Considered a “concept” album V.D.O.O. is a must listed from start to finish however in the words of Dick himself; “it’s fun on shuffle too”. With song titles like “The Odor Of The Floater”, “Feed The Homeless (To Each Other),” “I Wanna Kill The Black Eyed Peas,” “Fashionable Diarrhea” and “Clinching When I Should Have Been Pinching”, how can one take this album seriously and that’s exactly the point. It is playground humor at its finest and D.D. makes no apologies for it.
Surprisingly the musicianship seems sloppy at times considering the quality of players involved however considering the humorous nature of the songs one can only imagine the intent was for a good-time fuck-it-all feel and let the technical aspect be damned. While the production has that recorded in a garage vibe it lends itself well in that had this been “professionally” produced the songs would have been washed away in the cleanliness of modern production. With the addition of Nashville Pussy guitarist Ruyter Suys V.D.O.O. also has “tasty guesticle” appearances from Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher and Troy Sanders of Mastodon as well as Kevin Sharp from Brutal Truth and Blaine Cartwright of Nashville Pussy.
Engineered by Justin Walden of Korn fame and now signed to Nashville Pussy’s “Slinging Pig Records” D.D. will continue to tour throughout the remaining summer and fall.
Vulgar Display Of Obscurity is not for the faint of heart however if your flavor is obscene; laugh out loud, politically incorrect humor you are in for the treat of a lifetime.
