Deceiver Thrashing Heavy Metal

Formed in 2004, Swedish thrash metal stallions Deceiver is back again with a new release on Pulverized Records. What you get on Thrashing Heavy Metal is unabashed solid and basic thrash metal. The music is heavy on riffing and aggressive percussion.
This album was recorded and mixed by Tommy Tägtgren (Dark Funeral,
Marduk, God Among Insects) at the Abyss Studio.
The artwork and illustration was designed by Israeli artist Eliran Kantor, who was responsible for the artwork on Testament’s smash 2008 release Formation of Damnation.
The up side of the record include straight forward smash mouth metal, while the negatives are the below average vocals and not enough guitar soloing. Even when there is a guitar lead it is not mixed well and remains barely audible as seen on the song “Coma of Death Toxication.”
The voice of front man Pete Flesh sounds like Lemmy Kilmeister’s if he chose to sing extreme dark metal. Even if you do enjoy the vocals, they certainly do not match the style of music. If the music was dummied down and filled with Satanic verses it might, but for thrash metal they stand out like a sore thumb.
The guitar riffing while heavy lacks any serious originality. This is best seen at the start of the second cut “Ghost of Souls & Inner Hate.” The riffs there are heavy and entertaining but have been used dozens of times before.
Thrashing Heavy Metal does however feature a strong rhythm section with killer bass notes from Crille Lundin, and thundering drums from Magnus “Flingan” Flink.
Oh well this is a hammering heavy and downright nasty release that honestly never tries to be something it’s not. Check them out on-line and if you dig the vocals pick up a copy. It’s available now.
