Spit Like This We Won’t Hurt You (But We Won’t Go Away)

Following in the vein of Steel Panther, London based band Spit Like This has released an album We Won’t Hurt You (But We Won’t Go Away) filled with parodies of sex, drugs and roll and roll in an interesting concept. Fronted by Lord Zion on vocals, Vicki Spit on bass, Cyndi Rott on guitars, and Vile Gilez on drums Spit Like This has a Goth, Glam/Punk band is hard to categorize. The band has a definite ’70’s edge reminiscent of David Bowie meets the Talking Heads meets Marilyn Manson.
One of the important factors about this album just as the Steel Panther release is the stand out guitar playing that is displayed on the release. The guitar riffs cut like a knife and stab you in the heart amidst the vaudeville ambience that surrounds the band. Opening track,”Sex, Drugs, and Heavy Metal” pays tribute to rock and reminiscent of the Steel Panther song, “Death To All But Metal.” The song “Heart Thief” has a Bowieish groove. “Trust Your Instincts” has that Marilyn Manson “Beautiful People” vibe.
Spit Like This is meant to be witnessed live. The shock rock persona is hard to convey on vinyl but the band gives an outstanding effort with the song “Dead Girl Walking” which sounds like it came right out of the Living Dead movie and a punk rock groove that resonates Stiv Bators and Lords Of The New Church.
“Hunt You Down” deals with obsession and “Sleaze Sells..But Who Is Buying” Megadeth rip-off anyone? If you are looking for an album that is not for the faint of heart and has a different twist of love gone wrong in a Goth way, then you will enjoy the Spit Like This release.
