In November of 2015, modern oriental metal band IGNEA has released a debut video on the track Alga with a full symphonic orchestra. Over the past 9 months, the video gained over 600,000 views on YouTube, without extra promotion and despite little experience of the band.
Alga means ‘forward’ in Crimean Tatar language. IGNEA has dedicated the song to Crimean Tatars. In fact, the track is sung on behalf of this people. The peculiarity of Alga lies, of course, in featuring a full orchestra, which creates live symphonic sound and has an obvious advantage, contrary to synth sounds usually used by young bands.
Audio version of Alga also features a B-Side track — symphonic version of ‘Sputnik’ track produced by Xes Dreams band.
Before Alga, IGNEA has been acting under another title — Parallax. Within Parallax, the band has released an EPSputnik and a joint track Petrichor with Yossi Sassi (ex-guitarist of Orphaned Land). The band believes that renaming will bring another era for IGNEA and is setting up a track-list for their first ever full-length album.
Short Bio
Originally, IGNEA was formed in early 2011 under the name Parallax, as the first Ukrainian band to play oriental metal. After active rehearsals in summer 2012, the band started working on the debut EP titled Sputnik. Its concept is based on space topics, in particular on Mars and first ever human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik-1, as well as John Carter movie and Pioneer One series.
February, 2013, the band entered Morton Studio to start recording Sputnik. Apart from engineering and producing, Max Morton has greatly contributed to Parallax debut EP, acting as session guitarist and singing backing vocals in ‘Planet War’ song. Sputnik was released on June 15th, 2013.
May 1st, 2014, Parallax released ‘Petrichor’, a joint single with Yossi Sassi, ex-guitarist of Orphaned Land band (founders of oriental metal).
in the Autumn 0f 2015, the band changes its name to IGNEA and releases the debut video for ‘Alga’ single with a full symphonic orchestra. Audio version of ‘Alga’ also features a B-Side track — symphonic version of ‘Sputnik’ track produced by Xes Dreams band. The video ‘Alga’ has gained over 600,000 views on YouTube within several months.
IGNEA has already finished recordings for their first ever full-length album, which is now being mixed and mastered. The album is going to have a heavier sound, with lots of growls and authentic middle-eastern melodies, common for oriental metal genre. However, the music will keep melodic fundamentals and OST feeling. After the album is ready, IGNEA is going to search for a music label to get signed.
Recently, IGNEA was confirmed to support the show of Orphaned Land, fathers of oriental metal, that will take place in Kiev, Ukraine.
