Nebraska’s Cowboy X releases Hair Metal album recorded in 1990/1991 on FnA Records

Cowboy X were an early 90’s Hair Rock/Hair Metal band from Nebraska and winners of the, Z-92 Radios Local Lick’s contest. Their popularity was undeniable and their audience grew with every show they played and every town they toured.

The band consisted of former members of AIRSTRIKE, who had a very successful independent release ($400 on eBay), as well as members of BLITZ’N. With the success of the contest win and the buzz that Cowboy X was creating, major labels began to take notice. Management had Cowboy X record six songs of its 30-song catalog with the intention of signing to a major label. The COWBOY X EP was doing very well despite the fact that its release date had it competing with 311’s Dammit album. The music scene was noticeably changing.

COWBOY X is Gregg Lee on vocals, David Marshall Hughes and Barry Engle on guitar, Randy Cotton on bass, and Michael Watson on drums.

Cowboy X embarked on a full club/hall tour in the Midwest at the end of 1990, and the bands EP was selling well. A notable accomplishment of COWBOY X was a sold out Sokol Auditorium show in 1990. COWBOY X and 311 although in entirely different musical realms supported one another as original Omaha acts, one went on to fame and the rest is Omaha music-scene folklore.

The FnA Records release of Can’t Stop Rockin’ by Cowboy X is the label’s first release of 2019. The album is compiled of the 6 songs from the bands rare independent release. Additionally, there are six Demo songs included to round out the release. This collection of songs is the sample of that exciting time in history and includes demo tracks from the BLITZ’N (Watson/Hughes/Willison) and the Gregg Lee catalog. Can’t Stop Rockin’ is a total hair band album with the obligatory power ballads included.
