The Erotics | Ride it to Death

by Derric Miller — Managing Editor —

The Erotics are back in bloody spades with a new EP, Ride it to Death. The band somehow has the ability to take razor blades, turn them into aural weapons, all the while tempering that cutting barbed wire with melody and biting, sometimes hilarious lyrics. They just do everything right …

“When the Wolves are Howlin'” rips the scab off as the opening track. For a “punk” band, they are surprisingly adept at guitars, leads and solos, and this is another sinful testament to that ability.

“Scream Like a Demon” is a groove-fest, still heavy, with Riott thumping the catheter out of your groin, and one thing you’ll always marvel at is how singer Trash has the most melodic non-musical voice around. It sounds like he isn’t singing with melody, but he is, even if it’s on a testosterone and gravel booster.

The title track is an arena anthem, with sharp leads and throbbing guitar solo. Sometimes the music reminds of ’80s Hair Metal, but this is an updated and again, more punk-influenced sound. Fun as hell …

Albeit it’s just a five-song EP, it’s a smart intro to the band if you haven’t been following them. But get on board The Erotics ride to death either way, old or new fan, because it’s worth every note.
