Ode to the Wordsmith: Derric Smith Miller

By John Kindred — Publisher & Friend —

In his own words –

“Horror & rock and roll writer, www.hardrockhaven.net. All views my own, especially the skewed ones.” – Derric Smith Miller

On Tuesday September 10, 2024, I learned that Derric Miller, long time friend and managing editor for Hardrock Haven, had died on September 10.

He will be missed, he was a huge part to the success of Hardrock Haven. No words for the loss of this amazing wordsmith. We will miss you. Love you brother. See you on the other side.

Our condolences to his family, friends, musicians, and bands that he shined a light on while he was here on earth with us all.

If you want to say something about the man, the legend, please leave a comment.

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

May God be with you and bless you:
May you see your children’s children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home,
And may the land of a friend always be near.

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.

In celebration of you.

  1. We never met in person but that doesn’t mean that we did not connect. Thanks for the help improving my reviews and will never forget our once and done HHR digital magazine we all did together years ago. Thank you for always encouraging me to visit HHR as a guest reviewer. Meet you on the other side.

  2. He surely will be missed as a great writer, editor and journalist as well as a friend. Gone way too soon when there’s still so much music to write about… RIP.
