March 11, 2018 at O2 Institute in Birmingham, U.K. —

While the pubs in Digbeth, one of the most distinctive parts of Birmingham, were bursting with crowds celebrating after the St. Patrick’s day parade, the O2 Institute was a gathering black dressed for a Black Metal Sunday night.

It has been a while since Satyricon’s last visit to Birmingham, so this was a serious business.

First on the stage came Suicidal Angels. Apart from their mic stand aiming straight for my head all went smoothly and the shredding guitars of these Greek Thrash metallers did a great job on opening the moshpit ready for Satyricon.

The opener for the more than an hour an half long set was “Midnight Serpent,” a piece from Satyricon’s latest release Deep Calleth Upon Deep, which albums front cover features a drawing by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch.

Satyr is a frontman who knows how to make the crowd eat out of his hand. The flawless setlist touched every bit of Satyricon’s discography which increased the crowd’s anticipation as the band performed each song … drawing in most skeptical concert-goer.

On the way out I did hear lots of compliments on tonight’s performance, with one excited fan next to me shouting: “That was f…ing amazing!” Yes, Satyricon, it definitely was!!
