The Dead Daisies | Burn It Down

If you thought rock was dead, you were wrong. The Australian-American supergroup, The Dead Daisies, revived it entirely with its fourth studio album, Burn It Down.

The Dead Daisies were formed in 2013 as a labor of love by renowned guitarist, David Lowy (Red Phoenix, Mink). Lowy is the constant throughout the band’s run. While the line-up changes frequently, the result is the same. They’ve come to rock, with balls to the wall sound that grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go. You need only look at the band’s discography to really get a taste of what they’re about.

Burn It Down is no exception, a growling monster of an album, released on April 6th, 2016 via Spitfire Music. It evokes ’70s rock, with the powerful, John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Scream) on vocals, you would expect nothing less than a something to pulverize you. It delivers. Currently boasting a line up from the likes of Whitesnake, Bad English, Dio, Red Phoenix, and Mötley Crüe, you know that these men aren’t messing around. Rock lives in their very soul, and this album gives off that vibe well.

“Resurrected,” the opening track of the album, creates excitement right out the gate, leaving the listener curious for more. Corabi’s vocals are reminiscent of a classic Rock ‘n’ Roll sound that packs a bit more than a wallop in every blow. Screaming “I’m back, resurrected!” over the sharp electric guitar lets the fans know, their here to stay.

“Rise Up,” a single from the album, opens with a heavy electric guitar. Corabi’s message on this song seems to be that people are like sheep and they need to “rise up out of the deep.” The feeling of anger rolls through the song, but it’s clear Corabi’s sending a message for change with his vocals.

“Burn It Down,” a slower paced song, that creates a bluesy atmosphere in the under layers. It’s clear to see why it’s the lead single, every member of the band’s abilities are on display here. It creates a powerful emotion that melts into a powerful song.

“Judgement Day,” a song that makes you reflect on the time you’ve wasted. A bass led classic, with the cinematic feeling of the song, you can see the song in a trailer for a western. The country and blues vibe from it are enough to make it an excellent highway tune.
“What Goes Around,” bring the listener back into the world today. You get a taste of just what karma has in store for you in the end. “What goes around, comes around.”

“Bitch,” a cover of The Rolling Stones. You can hear the Jagger influence on this track. It’s explosive and sets out to prove the blatant truth, “Must be love, it’s a bitch.” Corabi’s voice and driving guitars, make you listen to the song. An adrenaline-fueled ride, you’ll love it on first listen alone.

“Set Me Free,” a balled in comparison to everything else, this song is the one that will make fans wave lighters at concerts. A beautiful song that shows just how brilliant Corabi is as a vocalist. He shines here, compelling his lover to let him go.
“Dead and Gone”a robust, guitar-led song that sounds like a classic rock song. The experimentation on this song is evident and succeeded at the effort.

“Can’t Take It With You,” a reminder that you can’t take anything with you when you die. Aimed at the more materialistic side of the world, it is the driving theme throughout the song. A song that will perhaps make the listener think twice about that late-night Amazon purchase.

“Leave Me Alone,” the closing track and an inspired way to close. Corabi’s anger is palpable, expressing a desire to be left alone. The band drives home the message with the hard hitting drums and roaring guitars. The song is a perfect closer to a fantastic outing.

With Burn It Down, The Dead Daisies have proved beyond anyone’s mind that they are not just any supergroup. They are genuinely THE supergroup. This is a solid album, and sure to be on the favorites list of many.
