For the fourth year, the biggest indoor Metal festival in the region Ruhrpott Metal Meeting was gathering black dressed in the German city of Oberhausen for a good headbang just before Christmas.
Two days, two stages on Saturday with a mega line-up, a Metal market with CD’s, vinyl’s and all sorts of band memorabilia; an indoor bear garden, band signing sessions… basically Ruhrpott has everything a proper festival can offer.
The main stage on Friday was hosting the line up of this year’s MTV Headbangers Ball.
It was 1989 when MTV’s Headbangers Ball presented tour headlined by Anthrax, supported by Exodus and Helloween and traveling all over the US in April and May of that year.
All this time later it is back to the future, after a successful first year in 2017, the reincarnated concept- tour will return in 2018 with a mega line up: newly restructured Ruhr Area thrashers Sodom, US Thrash Metal act Death Angel, Greek Suicidal Angels and San Francisco Bay Area Thrash Metal legends Exodus.
Friday night’s headliner duty went to British heavy metallers Venom, a name that has gone in history as pioneers of whole new music genre with their 1982 record Black Metal.
Saturday’s two stages had a lot to offer. The Ruhrpott Stage was hosting Danish rockers D.A.D., German thrashers Tankard, Icelandic Folk metallers Skálmöld, German hard rock band Motorjesus, and Scottish Heavy Metal pirates Alestorm. Saturday’s headliners were no others than Finnish extreme Metal five-piece Children Of Bodom, who have announced the release of their 10th studio album Hexed, out on March 8, 2019.
The smaller Flöz Stage was reserved for Century Media Record’s 30-year anniversary celebration party with few of the bands the label is looking after: Swedish Melodic Death metallers Dark Tranquility, Italian Gothic Metal band Lacuna Coil, Spanish Thrash Metal band Angelus Apatrida and Danish Baest.
